Introduction to International Education College (IEC)

Cross-Border Education Center (International Education College) performs functions such as services for international students studying in China, Chinese students studying abroad, Confucius Institutes, as well as publicity for enrollment of China’s Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan and overseas Chinese students, and education on national conditions, under the leadership of the Communist Party and administrative leaders of Nanchang University. The Center (College) is responsible for the enrollment, education and management of international students studying in China, the exchange of foreign (cross-border) students as well as the teaching of Chinese language and culture for international students. Moreover, it provides services for Chinese students studying abroad and their management, guidance for Sino-foreign cooperative education and overseas education (including overseas Confucius Institutes) and other foreign affairs.

The Center (College), located at Qianhu Campus of NCU, is a Demonstration Base for Studying in China by MOE, a CSCSE Study Abroad Training Base, an Advanced Test Center for HSK Online Test, an Executive Director Unit of China Education Association for International Exchange, a Teaching Center of University of London International Foundation Programme, and a member of the “Alliance of China-Thailand Universities”. It currently has seven offices: General Affairs Office, Project Development and Management Office, Confucius Institute Office, International Students Admissions Office, International Students Training Office, International Students Affairs Office, and Students Apartment and Classroom Management Office.

Guided by MOE’s policy of “expanding scale, optimizing structure, regulating management, and ensuring quality” for the education of international students studying in China, the Center (College) operates under the working concept of “putting people first, striving for excellence” and based on the mission of cultivating international envoys who “are savvy about, are friendly to and are fond of China”. It utilizes Nanchang University’s competitive educational resources to provide degree and non-degree education, long-term and short-term Chinese language training for international students at different levels So far, more than 5,000 students from over 120 countries have studied at NCU, creating a distinctive education brand of “study at NCU”.

The Center (College) strives to shape a diverse international education system of NCU. It has fostered cooperation on government-sponsored overseas education, inter-university exchanges, joint training, and overseas classrooms, with high-level universities such as University of Cambridge, University of Oxford, University of Yale, University of Columbia, Institute of Technology of California, Imperial College of London, National University of Singapore, Nanyang University of Technology, Chinese University of Hong Kong, and University of Macau, to create high-quality programs for studying abroad.

NCU has four Confucius Institutes and two Confucius Classrooms. The Center (College) has established Confucius Institutes in collaboration with the University of Poitiers in France, Hasanuddin University in Indonesia, Udayana University in Indonesia, and the University of Castilla-La Mancha in Spain, and Confucius Classrooms in collaboration with Caylan High School in France and Sekolah Islam Athirah School in Indonesia. “ Start with language, integrate with culture, and promote people-to-people bonds”. The Center (College) consistently carries out language teaching, promotion and exchanges to let the world learn about China, let China go global, and contribute to the exchange and mutual learning for diverse civilizations in the world.

The Center (College) puts a high value on educational cooperation with Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan of China, working vigorously to recruit students there. Starting with culture and education, it provides education on fine traditional Chinese culture, makes cultural exchanges a platform to enhance students’ identity with the nation and culture, and devotes to calling on young people in Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan of China to contribute to the nation in the new era.

The Center (College) is oriented towards “being in the vanguard and seeking coordinated development”, building the brand of studying in China, focusing on overseas study, building Confucius Institutes platform, and featuring education of students from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan of China, to promote the cultivation of cross-border talents to a new height and pursue high-quality, high-standard cross-border education development.
