NCU Organized the 6th Forum of University Alliance of “Yangtze -Volga”

From November 8th to 9th, the 6th Forum of Sino-Russian University Alliance of the Upper and Middle Reaches of Yangtze River and the Federal District along Volga River was held in Nanchang, Jiangxi. This forum was co-hosted by Sichuan University and Nizhny Novgorod State Technical University of Russia, and organized by Nanchang University(NCU). More than 130 university leaders and heads of international affairs departments from 37 universities in China and Russia attended this forum. Zhang Guoqing, member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Vice Premier of the State Council in China, and Igor Komarov, Russia’s Presidential Plenipotentiary Envoy to the Volga Federal District, attended the opening ceremony and delivered speeches.

At the forum, experts and scholars from both Chinese and Russian universities spoke out freely on the theme of “Potential for Education and Scientific Research Cooperation between Chinese and Russian Universities”, proactively exploring the prospects of joint scientific and technological research, the direction of cooperation in education and the mode of cooperation in people-people exchanges of the two sides. In addition, they also discussed how to carry out broader, more practical and more effective cooperation with Russian universities in fields such as education, science and technology, and culture, in order to better promote the modernization of both countries and benefit their people.

The Forum of Sino-Russian University Alliance of the Upper and Middle Reaches of Yangtze River and the Federal District along Volga River is one of the important sub-national cooperation mechanisms between China and Russia advocated by leaders from the two countries. The alliance is led by Sichuan University in China and Nizhny Novgorod State Technical University in Russia. The members of the alliance include 36 Chinese universities in five provinces (Szechuan, Chongqing, Hubei, Hunan and Jiangxi Provinces) and one city (Shanghai) in the middle and upper reaches of the Yangtze River in China, as well as 50 Russian universities of 14 federal subjects along the Volga River.

Luo Sihai, Secretary of the Party Committee of Nanchang University, attended the forum and delivered a speech. Chen Yeguang, academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and President of Nanchang University, attended the opening ceremony and Nie Shaoping, Vice President of Nanchang University, attended the forum and delivered a keynote speech entitled “Prospects for Joint Scientific and Technological Research between Chinese and Russian Universities.” NCU coordinated actively and reached an initial agreement in cooperation with six universities in Russia, including Nizhny Novgorod State Technical University.
