NCU-Reciting Classics in Han-style Clothing successfully concludes

Elegant writings inherit a nation’s civilization while classic works enrich a person’s life. In order to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Nanchang University, promote Chinese culture, enrich the cultural life of international students, and enhance friendly exchange between Chinese and foreign students, the Chinese Language Promotion Office of our school and the Chinese Association for International Students jointly organized the event named Reciting Analects of Confucius in Han-style Clothing for both Chinese and foreign students. More than 30 international students and Chinese students from different majors participated in this event. The Analects reading session was led by Geng Yiming, a graduate student enrolled in 2019 majoring in Chinese International Education in the School of Humanities.

The students were actively preparing the event with a high spirit before it started. On the morning of October 17, the event kicked off in front of the statue of Confucius at the entrance of the Foreign Languages and Economics Building. The event began with a brief introduction of Confucius, then all teachers and students stood solemnly, tidied their clothes, and bowed to the statue of Confucius in accordance with the ancient Chinese etiquette system.

Afterwards, following the instruction of the leading reciter, the Chinese and foreign participants together recited excerpts from Analects of Confucius-Is it not a pleasure after all to practice in due time what one has learnt? Is it not a delight after all to have friends come from afar? Is it not a gentleman after all who will not take offence when others fail to appreciate him? The students recited these words with melodious and fluting voices in a solemn atmosphere.

“This is my first time wearing Han-style clothing and participating in such an event. I met a lot of Chinese peers, which is very helpful to my Chinese study. It is an unforgettable event.”NARAYAN from Nepal said.

In recent years, the school has provided the international students with not only a comfortable learning and living environment, but also a broad development space and a wide platform for practice. By organizing international students to participate in various activities, the school help the students deepen their understanding and appreciation of Chinese culture, motivate their interests in Chinese culture so that their cultural literacy can be improved through the progress of learning Chinese.
