“Bengawan Solo, riwayatmu ini…” On November 16, Peng Liyuan, wife of Chinese President Xi Jinping, met in Bali, Indonesia with Iriana Joko Widodo, wife of Indonesian President Joko Widodo. Twelve students at the Tourism Confucius Institute co-established by NCU and Udayana University in Bali sang in Chinese the Indonesian song Bengawan Solo at the meeting.

During the meeting, Peng Liyuan and Iriana tasted fragrant teas, chatted about family life, enjoyed music, and talked about public welfare. The students at the Tourism Confucius Institute co-established by NCU and Udayana University, dressed in Bali traditional costumes, sang in Chinese the famous Indonesian song Bengawan Solo. After the performance, Peng praised the students for their beautiful singing and thanked the musicians for their excellent accompaniment. Peng also talked with the students about their study and life in the Confucius Institute, encouraged them to continue working hard to learn Chinese, and welcomed more Indonesian youths to visit China, learn the Chinese culture, and become envoys of China-Indonesia cooperation. The meeting was concluded with Peng’s donation of Chinese books in her own name to the Confucius Institute.
The Tourism Confucius Institute at Udayana University is the fourth overseas Confucius Institute jointly established by NCU with other universities, and also an important base for NCU’s overseas Chinese education and cultural exchange. Since its founding in 2020, the Confucius Institute has developed rapidly with great achievements. It has now grown into an important base for Chinese education in Bali Island. During the G20 Summit, it participated in many important activities, which fully demonstrates high recognition for its education quality and important role from all walks of life in Indonesia. It will continue to stay committed to its distinctive development path and make greater contributions to deepening cultural exchanges and promoting mutual understanding between China and Indonesia.
