While bidding farewell to the Year of the Tiger, we usher in the Year of the Rabbit. On January 21, the counselors of international students organized a Chinese New Year cultural experience activity for nearly 100 international students.
The international students in their ethnic costumes came to where the activity was held early and helped the teachers make some preparations there. By making colorful lanterns in the shape of rabbits together, the students and teachers lit up the hope of the New Year; by writing blessings on red papers, they expressed their new-year wishes; and by making rabbit-shaped paper-cuttings, they showed renewed vigor in the Year of the Rabbit.
The international students also brought their elaborate national dishes to the venue, and while learning to make dumplings from the teachers, they introduced their national dishes to each other. The cultural exchange climaxed with Chinese and foreign dishes. MEENAL SURYAWANSHI, an Indian student enrolled in 2019, said, “We stayed up making Indian dishes, and we are happy to share the dishes with everyone at the activity today. Coming back to China as well as to Nanchang University, my alma mater, after three years away, I feel so at home. The Chinese culture attracts me deeply. I wish everyone a happy New Year!”
