The 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China is a meeting of great importance. It takes place at a critical time as the entire Party and the Chinese people of all ethnic groups embark on a new journey to build China into a modern socialist country in all respects and advance toward the Second Centenary Goal. As a delegate from a university in Jiangxi, home to revolutionary bases, I feel very honored and excited.
The report delivered by General Secretary Xi Jinping gives us an incisive overview of our country’s development and achievements in the past ten years and provides us with a throughout understanding of the historic achievements secured and historic changes witnessed in the cause of the Party and the country, which is so encouraging. At the same time, the report depicts a grand blueprint for the development of China in the next five years and even longer, which makes us feel very excited.
In the report, what impresses me most is that China has achieved breakthroughs in some core technologies, witnessed major successes on multiple fronts such as manned spaceflight and lunar and Martian exploration, and joined the ranks of the world’s innovators. Meanwhile, General Secretary Xi Jinping pointed out that education, science and technology, and human resources are the foundational and strategic pillars for building a modern socialist country in all respects. We must regard science and technology as our primary productive force, talent as our primary resource, and innovation as our primary driver of growth. We will continue to give high priority to the development of education, build China’s self-reliance and strength in science and technology, and rely on talent to pioneer and to propel development. We will speed up work to build a strong educational system, greater scientific and technological strength, and a quality workforce. I am deeply aware that the importance that the Party and country attach to the role of education, science and technology, talent and innovation in building a modern socialist country in all respects has reached an unprecedented strategic level.
As a scientist in food science and technology, I am pleased to witness and experience the sound development of China’s food industry and the great progress of China’s food science and technology since the 18th CPC National Congress. The development of food science, food technology and food industry has made outstanding contributions to the all-encompassing approach to food, China’s food security and rural revitalization strategy and Healthy China Initiative. The food discipline has also achieved global prominence in the international academic sector. According to the ShanghaiRanking’s Global Ranking of Academic Subjects, in the field of food science & technology, China’s universities swept the top five, with eight Chinese universities on the top ten list.
As a faculty member of NCU, Jiangxi’s only key university jointly founded by the provincial government and the Ministry of Education and on the list of 211 Project, I am deeply aware of its outstanding achievements in the past decade. For example, it produced the first academician of Chinese Academy of Science in Jiangxi in 2019 and the first academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering Jiangxi in 2021. In 2015 and 2016, it won the National Technology Invention Award (First-class) and the National S&T Progress Award (Second-class). A group of high-quality talents with both virtues and talents are growing rapidly, and a number of young talents were granted the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars or the National Science Fund for Excellent Young Scholars or selected in the National Special Support Program for High-level Talents. The discipline of materials science and engineering was selected as a discipline of Double First Class construction; the discipline of food science and engineering was ranked third in the fourth round of discipline evaluation by the Ministry of Education, and is the only “A” discipline in Jiangxi.
As a scientist in food science and technology, I will take practical action to practice the spirit of the 20th CPC National Congress, strive to develop education that meets the people’s expectations, cultivate talent for the Party and the country, target the global science frontiers, serve the main economic battlefield, strive to fulfill the significant needs of the country, and benefit people’s lives and health. In the field of food science and engineering, I will work with my peers in the food industry to achieve more original innovations, make breakthroughs in some core technologies in key fields, promote the high-quality development of the food industry, continue to meet the people’s ever-growing needs for a better life, and consistently make new contributions to the cause of people’s life and health and to building a modern socialist country in all respects.
